So far, not so good

This afternoon I felt like doing a "Top of 2008" CD list (I know, 2008 is not over yet, but hey, I felt like it), and after a little bit rambling around the music collection the truth is that 2008 hasn't been a very good year (so far).

As very good albums I'd list:

The Hold Steady - Stay Positive

They haven't expanded greatly on their musical style but surely they don't need to! I like Craig Finn's lyrics and these two lines make me stand up:

Raise a toast to St Joe Strummer
Think He might've been our only decent teacher

Sigur Rós - Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust

You would have thought that the musical landscape of Sigur Rós was pretty much fixed or if it moved, it did at a glacier's speed... you would be wrong! I thought it was the case... and I have loved being proved wrong! Can't wait to seem them live in November at Razzmatazz.

... and that's basically it. There aren't any more albums worthy of being put on "the very good" list. All the others are just OKish, not great.

I still have to properly listen to Ra Ra Riot's "The Rhumb Line" and Emiliana Torrini's "Me and Armini", so maybe the list will increase before the end of the year.

Anybody care to recommend anything?

ps: If we had made it a 2008 "school year" top list (ie, from sept 2007 to august 2008), I'd definetively have included Radiohead's - In Rainbows & Beirut's - Nantes... and Josh Ritter's & The New Pornographer's latest... even though they're good, but not top top.

woah, ok... I have some work to do. Thanks Craig. :-D

I'll keep you posted, but I don't think 2008 is going to get better than 2007 (with Arcade Fire, Beirut, Interpol, Josh Ritter, Manics, The National, The New Pornographers, Radiohead, Vampire Weekend....)
